Poll sources linked to the organization, not the figures

A reader pointed out that our poll source links went to the pollster's home page rather than to the study and the figures we cite. That's right, and it fell short of what this site claims about itself.

Every topic page now links to the exact question in the questionnaire it came from — the wording, the national figure, the party numbers and the methodology. The one exception is photo ID, which comes from Gallup and the Pew Research Center rather than the Program for Public Consultation; those releases are now linked directly.

It used to say: Where to check this yourself, followed by a link to publicconsultation.org.

How this works

The rules we hold ourselves to

Nothing gets quietly edited. If a number or a fact changes, it gets an entry on this page.
What it used to say sits right next to what it says now.
Every entry carries the date it was changed.
Entries stay up. We don't clear this page.
Changes to how we do things go in the method page's own list of changes, not here.

Adding a topic, updating a number at the six-month mark, or finishing a topic we were still tracing isn't a correction. Those are updates, and they're noted on the page they belong to.
